Youtube sensation Kimbo Slice, American Gladiator Gina Carano, and Elite XC Middleweight Champion Robbie Lawler will all make MMA prime time on Saturday night May 31st 2008 on CBS at 8pm PST. Kimbo will face veteran James “Colossus” Thompson, a 6’5” slugger with KO power. Gina Carano, who plays “Crush” on the TV show American Gladiators, will face Muay Thai striker Kaitlin Young in a highly anticipated bout. “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler will put his title on the line against Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith, a UFC veteran who appeared on the Ultimate Fighter reality show. Also on the card a bout between Phil “The New York Badass” Baroni, and Joey Villasenor. With all the nicknames on the fight card they should have called it X men instead of XC. This will be the first non pay per view prime time network MMA event.

Rameau Sokodjou vs Kazuhiro Nakamura: Sokodjou came out strong throwing powerful leg kicks and nice straight punches, he landed a right leg kick followed by a right punch at the end of round one, which buckled the knee of Nakamura, forcing him to quit the match.

John Koppenhaver vs Yoshiuki Yushida: After a few seconds of sparring, Koppenhaver clinched up with Yushida, big mistake as the judo fighter threw him on his back, and sunk in a beautiful “anaconda choke” which left Koppenhaver unconscious.

Rousimar Palhares vs Ivan Salaverry: Palhares got this one to the ground quickly, took Salaverry’s back, and looked to sink in a rear naked choke, he then quickly transitioned into a nice armbar and got the tapout in the first round.

Thiago Silva vs Antonio Mendes: Light Heavyweights: Mendes came out strong with a high kick that sent Silva to the mat. He followed up moments later with a body kick that also sent Silva to the mat. This will be a battle of two of the best ground fighters in the Welterweight division, Fitch will try and do what his teammate, Josh Koscheck was unable to do, and that is to try and put St Pierre on his back and keep him there.

Arizona State University has announced it will cancel its wrestling program effective immediately. The University has produced some of the nation’s top amateur wrestlers, as well as some of MMA’s premier fighters. Dan “The Beast” Severn, a MMA legend was the first high profile ASU product to make his way onto the MMA scene. He appeared in UFC 4, losing to Royce Gracie. He returned at UFC 5, and won the tournament.

Pride Champion Dan Henderson, Randy Couture and Don “The Predator” Frye are all former ASU wrestlers who won major MMA championships.

The often changed fight card for UFC 85 has been changed yet again, Jason Day has replaced Chris Leben as the opponent for Michael Bisbing. Leben turned himself in to authorities on an outstanding arrest warrant and recieved 35 days in jail.
