UFC87’s main event features two fighters with a combined 18-2 record in the UFC, but with similar styles, GSP and Jon Fitch may not put on the show that Kenny Florian and Roger Huerta will. Brock Lesnar has the big following from his wrestling days, and has the size and aggression to succeed in the UFC, but can he bring the excitement like the Lightweights do? So look for Florian vs. Huerta to steal the show, both are aggressive strikers with great conditioning who are both good on the ground, give Florian a slight edge on the ground and Huerta a slight edge in punching power. No matter what the results may be, this one will be a war.

UFC89 will be a non pay per view event to be shown on Spiketv the UFC has reported. The event will be held in Birmingham England on 10/18/08, and will be tape delayed at 9pm est. The event will feature 185 lb contenders Chris Leben and Michael Bisbing in a match that was scheduled earlier this year at UFC 85, also in England, visa problems kept Leben from traveling to England and Jason Day stepped in to face the native Bisbing, Day was promptly smashed in the first round. The event will also feature unbeaten Light Heavyweights Lyoto Machida and Thiago Silva with the winner likely getting a shot at Forrest Griffin’s belt. Keith Jardine, looking to rebound from a devastating KO loss to Wanderlei Silva, will take on Brandon Vera who has dropped down to Light Heavyweight following his loss to Fabricio Werdum also at UFC85.

“Ruthless” Robby Lawler stopped Scott Smith in the second round via TKO in a rematch of their fight earlier this year, in the first fight Lawler hit Smith with an accidental eye gouge forcing the stoppage. Also on the Elite XC card, Jake Sheilds submitted Nick Thompson via guillotine in the first round. Nick Diaz and Raphael Feijao also got wins. The UFC 88 fight card featuring Chuck Liddell vs Rashad Evans just got more interesting as Rich Franklin will move back up to Light Heavyweight to face Matt Hamil, also on the card, Dan Henderson will face Rousimar Palhares. The UFC also announced UFC 90 which will feature Anderson Silva vs Patrick Cote in a highly anticipated bout.

Joachim Hansen stepped in for the injured Eddie Alvarez, and stopped Jujitsu master Shinya Aoki in the first round of their championship bout. Hansen, who lost to Alvarez at Dream4, defeated Kulthar Gill earlier in the night to earn the opportunity to step in if any of the fighters were injured and unable to continue. Aoki scored a lopsided decision win over Caol Uno to advance to the finals unscathed. Alvarez won a slugfest with Tatsuya Kawijiri, KO’ing the stout Japanese Lightweight, but Alvarez suffered a nasty cut in and around his right eye and was not cleared to fight by the doctors. In stepped Hansen who aggressively pursued Aoki and landed a big left hand down to the face of Aoki who was all but finished, a few more punches led to the referee stoppage.

Fedor only needed 36 seconds to dismantle Tim silvia, stating his case as the best fighter in the world. He landed some bis punches on the 6′8″ Silvia, worked him to the ground and finished him with a rear naked choke. Read on …
