UFC94 main event BJ Penn vs Georges St Pierre

The most anticipated bout on the UFC 94 card is the main event featuring the rematch between Georges St Pierre and BJ Penn who fought to a split decision in March 2006, St Pierre walked away with the decision and later won the Welterweight Championship while Penn moved to Lightweight and won the belt there. The loss has never sat well with Penn who believes he won the fight, he will have his chance to prove it on 1/31/09 in his own personal Super Bowl, Read on …

Dong Hyun Kim vs Karo Parisyan on UFC94 fight card.

Karo”The Heat” Parisyan hopes a win at UFC 94 results in another climb up the UFC ladder, while Kim hopes a win results in his own climb up the ranks in the Welterweight division. This is the first bout for Parisyan since a TKO loss to Thiago Alves in April 08, he is an excellent Judo player with good ground and pound and improved boxing, his fights are not always the most exciting and most have gone to decision, bet he is among the 10 best in the world at this weight.

Kim is 2-0 in his UFC and is undefeated overall, he won a razor thin decision over Matt Brown in his last bout, getting the takedown in the final round probably scored the win for him in an exciting bout, he is also a Judo player with good grappling and a southpaw style. This could be an interesting bout.

Manny Gamburyan vs Thiago Tavares on UFC94 fight card

Lightweights Manny Gamburyan and Thiago Tavares will face off on 1/31/09 on the UFC94 fight card. Gamburyan is a powerful grappler with great judo throws and nasty submissions, his kimura and chokes are really good, he came out swinging in his last bout against Robert Emerson, and left himself open for a counter punch and was KO’d in just 12 seconds, look for him to be a little more cautious here. Thiago Tavares started his career on fire, winning his first 16 bouts and going 2-0 in the UFC, he since has gone 1-3 including a devastating KO loss to Matt Wiman at UFC 85, he has strong Jujitsu as well as a judo background.

This bout should end up on the mat, we have not seen much of Manny’s guard as he usually ends up on top, Tavares has an excellent guard and is comfortable on his back it could be a matter of who makes the first mistake in this excellent matchup on the UFC 94 fight card.

Affliction 2 Day of Reckoning fight card

Fedor Emilianenko vs Andrei Arlovski:
This may not be the mismatch that most “experts” are predicting, Arlovski is a first class striker with excellent footwork and a decent ground, game he likes to throw a right hook followed up with a right uppercut, which he used to KO Ben Rothwell at Affliction 1. Fedor has all the tools and is ranked #1 for a reason he has nasty ground and pound and throws power punches from all angles. He may look to take Arlovski to the mat and use his ground and pound to wear down Arlovski early and then finish him.

Josh Barnett vs Gilbert Yvel
Barnett looks to secure a bout with the winner of Emelianenko vs Arlovski with a win over the talented but volatile “hurricane” Yvel. Barnett is a submission specialist with good standup skills, he KO’d Pedro Rizzo at Affliction 1 with a left hook but most of his wins have come by submissions. Yvel is a Muay Thai style striker who has 30 KO/TKO’s in his 35 wins, he is most famous for KO’ing a referee in a fight, and gouging the eyes of Don Frye in another bout, he will be a tough test for Barnett who should look to take the fight to the mat early.

Matt Lindland vs Vitor Belfort:
Another great matchup on this fight card, Lindland is a wrestler with good takedowns, dirty boxing and nasty ground and pound, he is in the mold of former teammate Randy Couture, who went 2-1 in his three bouts with Belfort, he should look to take Belfort to the ground and wear him out with ground and pound, on the feet he will throw punches in the clinch and grind on him similar to the way Couture did. Belfort is a powerful striker with fast hands and good Juijutsu, he will look to unload on Lindland and will want to keep it standing.

Renato “Babalu” Sobral vs Thierry Sokodjou:
A potential fight of the night, Babalu is a submission wizard with great ground and pound, but sometimes gets caught up in the “brawl” as he did against Chuck liddell, never even trying to get to the ground he got caught and KO’d. He should look to take it to the mat where he will undoubtedly outclass Sokodjou,

Chris Horodecki vs Dan Lauzon: Horodecki is an excellent kickboxer with good wrestling skills, while Lauzon is versed in Jujitsu but still learning the standup game an excellent matchup of young fighters who will be around for years to come.

Paul Buentello vs Kiril Sidellnikov: Buentello is a good boxer with underrated submission skills, they call Sidelnikov “baby fedor” so he is undoubtedly a good fighter.

Jon Fitch vs Akihiro Gono on UFC94 fight card.

Welterweight contender Jon Fitch looks to get back on the winning track after his 8 fight winning streak was snapped by GSP at UFC 87. Fitch was dominated in that fight, but impressed with his toughness and tenacity, fighting back from a terrible first round to make the fight competitive. Akihiro Gono is a well rounded MMA fighter who’s main strengths are his kickboxing and submissions, he has fought some of the best fighters in the world, and holds a win over Dan Henderson.

Rich Franklin vs Dan Henderson on UFC 93 fight card

Top contenders Rich Franklin and Dan Henderson will battle it out on the UFC93 fight card. The fight will be held in the light Heavyweight class of 205lbs, Franklin recently switched to the 205 lb clss, and Henderson has fought in both classes many times so the weight will not be much of a factor, the biggest factor in the fight will be the standup of Franklin, when he is on his game, he is very difficult to beat, with only Anderson Silva and Loyota Machida able to defeat him. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua vs Mark Coleman on UFC 93 fight card

MMA legend Mark “The Hammer” Coleman takes on “Shogun” Rua on the UFC93 fight card. Coleman is a former UFC Heavyweight Champion winning the UFC 10 and UFC 11 tournaments with an aggressive ground and pound style, Maurice Smith figured out his style, and used a Jujitsu guard to wear down and frustrate Coleman on his way to a unanimous decision win. Coleman is back at a slimmer 205 lbs, he still relies heavily on his wrestling skills, and will look to take Rua to the mat, and pound him out.

Rua is an aggressive striker with a Muay Thai attack backed up with excellent Jujitsu skills, he lost his UFC debut via rear naked choke to Forrest Griffin at UFC 76, It was a back and forth war, Griffin eventually wore Rua down and sunk in the choke with only 15 seconds left in the fight, look for Rua to come out with leg kicks, punches and knees early as most of his fights have ended in the first round.

Jeremy Horn vs Rousimar Palhares on UFC 93 fight card.

MMA legend Jeremy Horn steps in to the cage to face Juijitsu specialist Rousimar Palhares on the UFC93 fight card. Horn has faced the best in the world and has well over 100 fights to his name, he has lost his last two UFC bouts by way of guillotine choke, he lost to Nate Marquardt at UFC81 and to Dean Lister at the Ultimate Fighter 7 finale. He is well rounded and has won fights by every way possible, he may choose to keep the fight standing against the Juijitsu fighter. Palhares is coming off of the only defeat of his career a 3 round decision loss to Dan Henderson, a fight in which he was never able to take the wrestler to the mat, he ate a bunch of right hands and never looked comfortable against the veteran Henderson, he will need to Put Horn on his back and look for a submission or some ground and pound, Horn is dangerous from his back however making this an interesting match.
