Slugger Chris Lytle takes on Kevin Burns on the televised portion of The Ultimate Fighter US vs UK. Lylte has been ultra aggressive in his past 2 bouts, it may have cost him in his last bout, a split decision loss to Marcus Davis, a bout in which he tired late and got caught with quite a few counterpunches from Davis.

Kevin Burns is also coming off of a loss, a head kick KO from Anthony Johnson at the last TUF finale. He was holding his own against the talented Johnson when he got caught with the kick and was done.

Both fighters have good ground games as well as standup skills, Lytle will look to trade punches early looking for the KO. Burns should pick his spots and take the fight to the ground, looking for the submission or ground and pound.

Dan Hardy coming off a big win at UFC95 will face slugger Marcus Davis on the UFC99 fight card. Hardy called out Davis and requested this fight, taking offense to Davis’ promoting his Irish heritage, while being an American. He got what he asked for, the hard hitting Davis is 8-2 in his UFC career, most of the victories being on English soil, this seems a brash move for someone who has only two UFC fights to his name, but Hardy seems to have the tools to back it up, and showed KO power in his victory over Rory Markham at UFC95. This matchup should result in a slugfest on the UFC99 fight card.

Lightweights Jim miller and Mac Danzig will face off on the UFC100 fight card.
Both fighters are coming off of losses and need a win to continue on the in the ultra-competative Lightweight division.
Miller was soundly beaten by Gray Maynard at UFC96, a fight in which his face was battered by punches from Maynard, he hung in there but was never a threat on the ground or standing.

Danzig was beaten by Josh Neer whose straight ahead style overwhelmed the smaller Danzig, he landed some solid blows on Neer and scored a knockdown, but was eventually caught in a triangle choke and forced to tap.

Look for Miller to try and put Danzig on his back and work ground and pound, while Danzig will want to stay on his feet and land punches from a distance, he also has good knee strikes and is versed in submissions. An excellent matchup on the UFC100 fight card.

Xtreme Couture’s Mike Pyle will face Brock Larson on the UFC98 fight card. He will replace late scratch Chris Wilson. Pyle has excellent submissions and a ton of experience, conditioning could be a factor against an agressive grappler like Larson.

The main event on a fight card otherwise lacking in real excitement, is a good one, featuring two undefeated Light Heavyweights Lyoto Machida and Rashad Evans. Both fighters have earned their undefeated records, having faced stiff competition, the only blemish on either record is Evan’s draw with Tito Ortiz. Machida also faced Ortiz, defeating him unanimously over three rounds.

Evans is an excellent wrestler who has improved his standup immensely, he has stopped opponents via KO with punches and kicks, he has good takedowns and brutal ground and pound which he used to stop Forrest Griffin at UFC92, earning him the title. Look for him to counterpunch, trying to land his big right hand, he may also look to take the fight to the ground.

Lyoto Machida is a crafty fighter, he stays on his toes and slides in to attack and back out of trouble, he uses a straight left hand with great effectiveness, he tries to avoid the clinch and takes the fight to the ground on his terms, look for him to use his low kicks to set up a punch or kick to the head. A grudge match extraordinaire will take place on 5/23/09, on the UFC98 fight card. Both fighters have expressed their dislike for each other, stemming from their days on The Ultimate Fighter reality show. The fight was supposed to take place at UFC79, but Serra injured his back, and Hughes instead faced Georges St Pierre for the interim title, Hughes was soundly beaten and submitted via armbar. Japanese sensation Caol Uno makes his return to the UFC on the UFC99 fight card. Uno last fought in the UFC in Sept 03 losing to Hermes Franca via KO. He last fought in the Dream organization’s Lightweight tournament shocking Mitsuhiro Ishida with a rear naked choke in the semi’s, he lost a decision to Shinya Aoki in the quarterfinals. He is quick, has good submissions and has fought the best of the best, he is probably most famous for his 5 round draw with BJ Penn at UFC41.

Spencer Fisher is a well rounded fighter who prefers to stand and trade punches, but has excellent submissions, which he used to submit Shannon Gugerty via leg triangle in his last fight at UFC90. He has excellent Muay Thai and is very unorthodox.

Krzysztof Soszynski fresh off of an easy win over Brian Stann at UFC97, will face Andre Gusmao on the UFC98 fight card. Soszynski replaces the injured Houston Alexander. Soszynski has finished his two UFC bouts by kimura, he will face a tougher test in Gusmao, who has excellent Juijitsu. Gusmao lost his UFC debut to the talented Jon Jones.

The fight card for UFC98 on 5/23/09 underwent changes as Yushin Okami and James Irvin both suffered knee injuries, Okami’s injury seems to be the most serious as he suffered a torn mcl, Irvin’s injury was reported as torn meniscus. Chael Sonnen will replace Okami against Jim Miller, setting up what should be an excellent grappling match. Xavier Foupa-Pokam will replace Irvin against Drew McFedries, in a good striking matchup.
