Two legends of MMA will meet on the UFC102 fight card. Former UFC champ Randy Couture will meet former interim UFC champ “Minotaro” Noguiera in an important Heavyweight battle. Both fighters are coming off of disappointing defeats, Couture lost his title to current champ Brock Lesnar, while Noguiera lost his interim title to Frank Mir.

Veteran Keith Jardine will face Thiago Silva on the UFC 102 fight card. Jardine is coming off of a tough loss to “Rampage” Jackson at UFC96, he showed how tough he is in that bout, he was dropped twice by the power punches from Rampage, but bounced back and gave Rampage all he could handle in one of the more entertaining bouts of the year.

Jardine is mainly a striker, but will take his opponent down if the opportunity presents itself. He has a kickboxing style with punches and kicks from all angles, he keeps his opponents off balance with his style, he has defeated some of the best including Chuck Liddell, Forrest Griffin, and Brandon Vera.

Silva is also coming off of a loss, a KO to Light Heavyweight Champ Lyoto Machida at UFC94, the loss was the first in Silva’s career, and he will need a strong performance against Jardine to keep himself in the 205 lb mix.

Top Middleweight contenders Demian Maia and Nate Marquardt will faceoff on the UFC 102 fight card. The winner will most likely face the winner of the rematch between Dan Henderson and Anderson Silva sometime in early 2010.

Maia is a top level Jujitsu stylist, who has won all 5 of his UFC bouts by submission. He has good takedowns, and prefers to work from the mount position, his chokes are excellent and his preferred weapon, he is competent on his feet, but is always looking to get the fight to the mat.

Nate Marquardt is a well rounded fighter who is comfortable wherever the fight goes, his win over Wilson Gouveia at UFC 95 was fought mostly on the feet, he will need to use his wrestling skills against Maia to keep the fight standing, where he will have an advantage. A great match up on the UFC102 fight card.

Striker Chris Leben will make his comeback to the Octagon on 8/29/09. He will face former NCAA wrestling champ Jake Rosholt on the UFC102 fight card. Leben was suspended by the Athletic Comission for a positive drug test following his loss to Michael Bisping at UFC89. Leben is a brawling striker with a great chin and KO power, he is good on the ground as well, both from the top or bottom position, he will use his takedown defense to try and keep it standing, while looking for the big punch.

Look for Rosholt to try and get the fight to the ground early and wear down Leben with ground and pound, he has shown limitations in his standup, but has serious potential as a Mixed Martial Artist

Middleweights Ed “Short Fuse” Herman and Aaron Simpson will “hook em up” on the UFC 102 fight card. Herman got a much needed win over David Loiseau at UFC97, after two consecutive losses. The Team Quest member will need another win to stay in the increasingly crowded Middleweight division.

Aaron “A Train” Simpson is a world class wrestler, one of several former ASU Sun Devils in the UFC, he trains out of AZ Combat Sports with the likes of Ryan Bader, CB Dollaway, and Carlos Condit. He scored a win in his UFC debut, a first round TKO of Tim McKenzie at the April 1st Ultimate Fight Night, he has good punching power, to go with his ground game.

Light Heavyweights Brandon Vera and Krzysztof Soszynski will fight on the UFC102 fight card. Soszynski has been good to start his UFC career, going 3-0 with 2 submissions and a KO. His last bout was a first round KO of top prospect Andre Gusmao at UFC98. He stepped into this bout as a replacement for the injured Matt Hamil, he is well rounded, with good takedowns, and a nasty kimura, 3 of his past 4 wins have come by kimura .

Brandon Vera also started his career strong, winning 4 in a row in the UFC Heavyweight division, subsequent losses to Tim Sylvia and Fabricio Werdum, prompted his move to Light Heavy. He rebounded from a tough split decision loss to Keith Jardine to TKO Michael Patt in the second round at UFC96, he battered Patt with leg kicks and nice punches, he is an excellent striker with good ground skills as well, he is at his best when he is aggressive, getting his punches and kicks off before his opponent, when he has been cautious is when he has had problems. Another good match up on the UFC102 fight card.

Kenny Florian will take his second crack at the Lightweight title when he faces “The Prodigy” BJ Penn on the UFC101 fight card. Florian lost a lopsided decision to Sean Sherk in his first attempt, but has rebounded with 6 straight victories, with 5 by TKO/submission. Read on …

Anderson Silva moves up to Light Heavyweight to face fan favorite Forrest Griffin on the UFC101 fight card. This is the second bout at 205 for Silva, he smashed James Irvin in 1:01 last July, he will be giving up size to Griffin, one of the bigger Light Heavies.

Ultimate Fighter winner Amir Sadollah will finally make his UFC debut on 8/8/09 against former Oklahoma State wrestler Johny Hendricks. Sadollah defeated another wrestler CB Dollaway via armbar to garner the Ultimate Fighter title, he has battled numerous injuries since the win and cancelled several bouts, he appears healthy and ready to show he is no fluke.
