First the Jon Fitch vs Ricardo Almeida bout was scrapped due to Almeida’s knee injury, now Brock Lesnar’s undisclosed illness has forced the UFC to reschedule his bout with Shane Carwin until early next year the UFC reported. The rematch between Forrest Griffin and Tito Ortiz has been moved to the main event spot. The event has only 7 official bouts listed, so look for additional bouts to be announced soon. UFC104’s main event is a good one, featuring Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida’s first title defense. The belt has changed hands often over the past year or so, with both Forrest Griffin, and Rashad Evans losing the belt in their first title defense. The belt now rests in the hands of Machida, a Karate practitioner, who backs up his Karate with a solid Jujitsu game.

Machida won the belt with a dominant KO victory over Rashad Evans at UFC101. He showed power in his punches that we had never seen before, and as Evans seemed content to stand and trade with him, he coasted to an easy victory.

Mauricio “ Shogun” Rua’s climb to the top was a difficult one, a poor performance in a defeat to Forrest Griffin, followed by two serious knee injuries, derailed his stellar career, the comeback bout against Mark Coleman was also unforgettable, but still resulted in a victory. He came back strong with one punch, a left hand that knocked down Chuck Liddell, he followed up with punches on the ground and the fight was over, and Shogun was back. When Quinton Jackson turned down a shot against Machida, instead opting to battle nemesis Rashad Evans on the Ultimate Fighter, Rua was in, looking for the biggest title of his career.

Middleweights Kendall Grove and Jake Rosholt will square off on 11/21/09 on the UFC106 fight card.
Rosholt is a three time NCAA division 1 national champion wrestler, who is coming off of an impressive “anaconda choke” submission win over Chris Leben at UFC102, he showed much improved standup in the bout, worked for the take down in the third round, and choked Leben out.

Kendall Grove lost a tough decision to Jujitsu master Ricardo Almeida in his last bout, he showed his Jujitsu as well, putting Almeida in several dicey positions, but ultimately the control of Almeida won him the bout.

Grove should have the advantage in the stand up game, at 6′6″ he will have a huge reach advantage and will look to work his Muay Thai, he will need to avoid being taken down by Rosholt. Look for Rosholt to fight a similar fight as he did against Leben, avoiding damage in the stand up, and working a takedown in the later rounds then using ground and pound or possibly a submission. a great match up on the stacked UFC 106 fight card

Spike Tv will air 2 or more bouts from the UFC104 fight card the UFC announced today. The bouts scheduled to be shown are the Light Heavyweight bout between Ryan Bader and Eric Schafer and the Heavyweight bout between Antoni Hardonk and Pat Barry.
