Rampage and Rashad engage in “pillow talk” ahead of UFC114

Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champions Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and “Shuga” Rashad Evans heated up the verbal warfare leading up to their showdown on the UFC114 fight card. Rampage apparently twittered that Evans was going to need a pillow to lay on after he KO’d him. Evans fired back saying he bought Rampage a snuggie so he would be nice and toasty laying on the mat. This bout is shaping up to be one of the “real” grudge matches in recent UFC history. Rampage vs Wanderlei Silva, along with the Koscheck vs Paul Daley stand out, but this one has the makings to be a real grudge match. Give Rampage the edge in KO power, as well as good defense against punches, Forrest Griffin was able to land kicks at will in their bout, but leg kicks are not Evans forte. Rashad has fast hands, good takedowns, and his ground and pound is lethal, neither fighter has won many bouts by way of submission.

Floyd Mayweather outpunched the much slower Shane Mosley by at least a two to one margin and cruised to an easy 12 round decision. Scores were 119-109 twice and 118-111. After the bout Mayweather said a match with Manny Pacquiao would not happen if Pac man did not agree to stringent drug testing before the bout.

Mayweather vs Mosley Will they put on a show

With a slow weekend in MMA leading up to next weeks UFC113 rematch between Lyoto Machida and Mauricio Rua, I cant help but wonder what would happen if Mayweather vs Mosley was a MMA bout, would Mayweather use his excellent footwork to land kicks upside the head of Mosley, or would Mosley unleash his takedowns and ground and pound. One thing is for sure th bout would be entertaining, hopefully Floyd Mayweather vs Shane Mosely the boxing match is exciting

Total domination at WEC48 Aldo, Henderson retain titles

Featherweight champ Jose Aldo put on a clinic for 5 rounds against former champ Urijah Faber, and retained his Featherweight title, Aldo kicked the legs of Faber into rubber, smashed elbows into his face on the ground and outstruck the former champ by at least a 5 to 1 margin. Lightweight Champion Ben Henderson sunk in quick Guillotine on Donald Cerrone in the first round to retain his title. The first “go round” ended in a decision victory for Henderson in a bout that earned MMA fight of the year by numerous publications. Leonard Garcia vs Chan Sung Jung put on the craziest back and forth fight I have ever seen, not always pretty, these fighters put every thing into every kick, punch, and knee they threw, Garcia was awarded the victory but it could have gone either way a must see. Manvel Gamburyan KO’d former Featherweight Champion Mike Brown in the first round, he dropped him with a big right, and followed up with a barrage of rights on the ground.

Strikeforce Nashville results from 4/17/10

Strikeforce’s network tv event from Nashville,TN featured some of it’s biggest MMA stars, what we found out however is that the biggest names don’t always make the best bouts. In the Middleweight Title bout, Champion Jake Sheilds recovered from a big right hand from Strikeforce’s prized free agent, Dan Henderson to turn the bout into a grappling match, Henderson was no match for Sheilds, who fought most of the bout from the mount, he peppered Henderson with punches, but was not able to hurt Henderson, and won a Unanimous decision to retain his Middleweight Title
score UFC 1 Strikeforce 0

After the bout, Jason “Mayhem” Miller crashed the party and asked Sheilds for a rematch, what he got was a “Bully Beatdown” from the Ceasar Gracie street gang oops I mean the Ceasar Gracie Fight club as he was attacked by Nick and Nate Diaz, as well as Gabriel Melenzez. Miller did not seem to suffer any damage in the melee, which was shown on live network tv
Score UFC 2 Strikeforce 0

The Light Heavyweight Title was on the line as Strikeforces big gun Gegard Mousasi put his title on the line against explosive wrestler Mo Lawal, Lawal scored takedown after takedown against the lethargic Mousasi, who fought back nicely from the guard, he landed upkicks, hammer fists and straight punches to swell the face and eyes of Lawal. Lawal showed good ground and pound combined with cardio to overwhelm Mousasi via decision
Score UFC 3 Strikeforce 0

Lightweight Champ Gilbert Melendez squared off against Japanese Jujitsu master Shinya Aoki, who was considered tho be in the top three in the Lightweight division, Melendez handled him with ease, combining superior standup with nice takedowns, and ground and pound, he fought a masterfup fight, staying out of the reach of Aoki both on the ground as well as the feet
Melendez retains his Lightweight title with a 5 round decision.
Score one for Strikeforce as Aoki has the bigger name in MMA, “El Nino” Melendez showed he is one of the top Lightweight’s on the planet, as he vaults to third on the Freestyle MMA Fighter rankings

Final score UFC 3 Strikeforce 1
