Top contenders Rich Franklin and Dan Henderson will battle it out on the UFC93 fight card. The fight will be held in the light Heavyweight class of 205lbs, Franklin recently switched to the 205 lb clss, and Henderson has fought in both classes many times so the weight will not be much of a factor, the biggest factor in the fight will be the standup of Franklin, when he is on his game, he is very difficult to beat, with only Anderson Silva and Loyota Machida able to defeat him. MMA legend Mark “The Hammer” Coleman takes on “Shogun” Rua on the UFC93 fight card. Coleman is a former UFC Heavyweight Champion winning the UFC 10 and UFC 11 tournaments with an aggressive ground and pound style, Maurice Smith figured out his style, and used a Jujitsu guard to wear down and frustrate Coleman on his way to a unanimous decision win. Coleman is back at a slimmer 205 lbs, he still relies heavily on his wrestling skills, and will look to take Rua to the mat, and pound him out.
Rua is an aggressive striker with a Muay Thai attack backed up with excellent Jujitsu skills, he lost his UFC debut via rear naked choke to Forrest Griffin at UFC 76, It was a back and forth war, Griffin eventually wore Rua down and sunk in the choke with only 15 seconds left in the fight, look for Rua to come out with leg kicks, punches and knees early as most of his fights have ended in the first round.
MMA legend Jeremy Horn steps in to the cage to face Juijitsu specialist Rousimar Palhares on the UFC93 fight card. Horn has faced the best in the world and has well over 100 fights to his name, he has lost his last two UFC bouts by way of guillotine choke, he lost to Nate Marquardt at UFC81 and to Dean Lister at the Ultimate Fighter 7 finale. He is well rounded and has won fights by every way possible, he may choose to keep the fight standing against the Juijitsu fighter. Palhares is coming off of the only defeat of his career a 3 round decision loss to Dan Henderson, a fight in which he was never able to take the wrestler to the mat, he ate a bunch of right hands and never looked comfortable against the veteran Henderson, he will need to Put Horn on his back and look for a submission or some ground and pound, Horn is dangerous from his back however making this an interesting match. Pride veteran and UFC newcomer Denis Kang will make his debut at UFC93. He will face Alan Belcher, who boasts an excellent Muay Thai attack and is versed on the ground as well. Kang is well rounded and is a veteran of over 40 fights we is good on the ground and has big power as he showed in his last fight a KO of former UFC fighter Marvin “the beastman” Eastman in October, if the fight goes to the ground, Kang should have the advantage over Belcher.
Alan Belcher has been up and down in his UFC career, losing to Kendal Grove, and Jason Day via TKO, he looked much improved in his last bout a split decision win over Ed Herman at UFC fight Night 15, he controlled the action with nice striking, kicks and knees, when Herman was able to get the fight to the ground Belcher was able to get back up without sustaining much damage, he will want to keep the fight standing, and look for a head kick or punch to take Kang out.
