Ultimate Fighter winner Amir Sadollah will finally make his UFC debut on 8/8/09 against former Oklahoma State wrestler Johny Hendricks. Sadollah defeated another wrestler CB Dollaway via armbar to garner the Ultimate Fighter title, he has battled numerous injuries since the win and cancelled several bouts, he appears healthy and ready to show he is no fluke.

Former top Middleweight contenders Kendal l”Da Spyder” Grove and Ricardo Almeida face off on 8/8/09 on the UFC 101 fight card. Grove started his career strong when he won the Ultimate Fighter Title, defeating Ed Herman in an instant classic, he reeled off two wins in a row, including a submission win over tough Alan Belcher, he lost two in a row after that both first round TKO’s he rebounded nicely with a wins over Evan Tanner and Jason Day, and seems rededicated to the sport.

Ricardo “Big Dog” Almeida is a decorated Jujitsu player with good standup, he started his UFC career over 8 years ago at UFC31, he was offered a shot at Anderson Silva if he could get past Patrick Cote, he looked good in the fight, but could not keep Cote on the mat, and was peppered with leg kicks in the standup game, he eventually lost a split decision, he followed up with a nice 3 round win over Matt Horwich. A battle between a Spyder, and a Big Dog on the UFC101 fight card.

Lightweights Kurt Pellegrino and Josh Neer will face each other on the UFC 101 fight card. Both fighters are coming off of victories and need the win to continue their climb to the top of the division. Pellegrino has won 2 in a row and his last bout was an impressive submission win over Rob Emerson at UFC Fight Night, he is an excellent grappler with decent standup, his takedowns are excellent and he uses the ground and pound effectively.

Josh Neer is coming off an impressive win over Mac Danzig, he was aggressive in the standup, and eventually wore down the smaller Danzig, and caught him in a triangle choke during a scramble, he is big for a lightweight and has an underrated ground game.

UFC Middleweight Champ Anderson Silva puts himself in the UFC’s record books with a win at UFC97. If his efforts against Thales Leites result in a win, Silva will have the most title consecutive wins with 9 as well as tie Tito Ortiz and Matt Hughes with 5 successful title defenses.

Thales Leites has a great Jujitsu game backed up by decent standup, he has been under fire and survived, he lost his UFC debut to Martin Kampmann in 2006 and has remained undefeated since, scoring 5 consecutive wins, including a win over Nate Marquardt.

Look for Silva to bring the pressure early, in response to critics of his performance against Patrick Cote at UFC93, he hit Cote with some hard shots, but couldn’t put him away after two rounds Cote retired in the third with a major knee injury. Silva wants to put away Leites and silence those critics.

Former WEC Champ Steve Cantwell will face the hard hitting Luiz “Banha” Cane on the UFC97 fight card. This is a matchup of two of the better young Light Heavyweights in the UFC, both are well rounded and can win standing or on the ground. Read on …

Heavyweight strikers Cheick Kongo and Antoni Hardonk will battle on 4/18/09 on the UFC97 fight card. Both fighters have been good recently, with Hardonk winning three in a row and Kongo two, both fighters have a kickboxing background and prefer to strike, Hardonk has heavy leg kicks, while Kongo has good hands and kicks. If it goes to the ground Hardonk has Jujitsu skills training with Rickson Gracie, while Kongo works on the ground with Rampage and Bisping in England. This should be an action packed bout and Kongo hopes an impressive win at UFC97 results in a title opportunity.

Former champ Chuck Liddell will face dangerous striker Mauricio “Shogun” Rua on the UFC97 fight card. The event will take place on 4/18/09. The 39 year old Liddell is hoping a win at UFC97 results in one more title shot before retirement, Read on …

Diego Sanchez (156) vs Joe Stevenson (155): Diego outclassed Stevenson in an exciting bout that was fought mostly on the feet, he used nice combos, knees and the occasional head kick to win a unanimous decision over a tough but outgunned Stevenson

Rory Markham (170) vs Dan Hardy (170) Hardy countered a missed punch by Markham with his own punch that landed flush on the temple of Markham and he was done. First round KO by Hardy.
Wilson Gouveia (185) vs Nate Marquardt (185) Marquardt showed a variety of offensive attacks, dominating the slow starting Gouveia, scoring a second round TKO. Marquardt showed good combos, knees and kicks in a dominating win.
Chael Sonnen (185) vs Demian Maia (184)Maia took down the wrestle Sonnen then locked on a beautiful triangle choke to score his fifth straight UFC submission win. He reminds me of Royce Gracie back in the old days when he knew bjj and the other fighters didn’t, Maia is that good
Paulo Thiago (169) vs Josh Koscheck (170)Kos was rolling, hitting Thiago with power shots, it looked like an early end to Thiago’s night when he uncorked a huge uppercut followed by a left hook and Kos was out, the ref stepped in immediately, and that was it.
Brian Cobb (155) vs Terry Etim (156) Etim used his reach and superior striking to score a tKO win over Brian Cobb, he kicked Cobb in the face, followed up with a punch on the ground and the ref stepped in.
Stefan Struve (240) vs Junior Dos Santos (237)Dos Santos dominated a overmatched Struve, dropping him several times before the ref had seen enough and stopped the bout in the first round
